Former Defense Secretary and senatorial candidate Gilbert (GIBO) Teodoro sees the need to further improve the transportation system, especially in Metro Manila and urbanized areas, through investing in technology and innovation.

Gibo Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, said that aside from adding road and transport infrastructures, there is also a need to invest in smart transportation such as big data and intelligent transport systems that will improve the efficiency of the transport sector.

“We should upgrade our mass transportation. Intelligent transport systems can provide real-time information for motorists and commuters on traffic as well as the timing and availability of public transportation like trains and buses,” Gibo Teodoro said. “This would help Filipino workers as they start to go back to their workplaces under the new normal.”

The intelligent transport system, interconnected by big data including GPS (Global Positioning System) provides users with positioning, navigation, and timing information that can address traffic woes, especially in areas where construction of new roads is not possible, such as those in already congested areas.

Gibo Teodoro also bats for inclusive mobility that will address transportation requirements for commuters with unique needs including persons with disabilities, the elderly, women, and children.
