GIBO calls for more active LGU involvement to mitigate the pandemic
February 18, 2022Former Defense Secretary Gilbert (GIBO) Teodoro said that the more active involvement and management of local government units (LGUs) will complement the difficult balancing decisions the national government undergoes on the Covid situation. He mentioned the task of restricting and allowing people to resume public transport use, travel, and working for a living, among others.
Gibo Teodoro, a candidate for senator, said that in the pandemic oftentimes the rights of an individual may come in conflict with the rights of the public. He said that he will agree with the “no vaccine, no ride” policy if the majority of the public is already vaccinated, exemptions are properly implemented, and public transportation will enforce effective vaccinated and non-vaccinated sections in their facilities.
Gibo Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, said that the local governments, through their Health and Disaster Risk Management Offices, are in the best position to determine their respective area’s conditions and thus make the necessary recommendations and decisions. He said that public health is a national security concern since this affects individual and public rights economic, health and safety-wise.
