GIBO urges separate future national and local polls

February 18, 2022

Former Defense Secretary Gilberto (GIBO) Teodoro, Jr. advocates that the national and local elections for the country’s future polls be separate. He said it is important for Filipino voters to thoroughly study the considerations and issues that are distinctly national and local in nature.

Gibo Teodoro, a candidate running for Senator, said that voters must be given the opportunity to contemplate these concerns separately, as they must not be lumped together ideally. He gave us an example for local elections, that the local government and barangay leaders who offer their services to their constituents know their respective areas better than anyone else. Here, the voters will have ample time to weigh the considerations more, and that this may result in improved local conditions.

On the other hand, at the national level, presidential, vice presidential, and senatorial candidates will have more time to present their respective platforms and programs giving the people a better chance to discern these, among others.

Gibo Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, said this also considers the fact that the ballot is long and may take too much time and effort to accomplish. He said that there may be those who choose not to vote because of this.
