Former Defense Secretary Gilbert (GIBO) Teodoro favors the transition to green energy as long as the costs will not be an additional burden to Filipinos and that inconveniences will be minimal if at all. He said that shifting from fossil fuel to renewable energy sources has both advantages and disadvantages.
Gibo Teodoro, a candidate for senator, said that in some countries that fast track green energy transition programs there are power disruptions and energy costs have increased. Though ultimately favorable to Filipinos and the environment, wide-scale transition must be well thought of and gradually implemented.
Gibo Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, dependence on fossil fuels that are oil and coal, as against renewable energy sources that are sunshine, wind and water, may eventually have to be addressed. He said green or clean energy is generated from natural resources and does not harm the environment by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Among the disadvantages of shifting to green energy are high upfront costs, unreliable or intermittent power source, space consuming and limited storage capabilities, and somehow still emits pollution, he said.
